Media-tique | Experiential Media Center
Location: 5925 Penn Avenue | Pittsburgh, PA
Designed as an experimental media center attached to the existing Kelly-Strayhorn Theater, Media-tique challenged the ideas of space, art, performance, and function. By questioning the program and seeing what different elements actually need to function, the building was stripped to an open floor plan alongside a central backbone of support spaces. The building aims to create a space that can host any event, exhibition, or audience through the usage of movable curtains. The customizable curtains can be used to define spaces based on whatever the program demands, and alongside the uniquely cut and melded floor plates, helps to create whimsical experience for its inhabitants. The dynamic curtain-like facade reflects this to the public eye, and becomes an element geared towards invitation and exposure.
